XML, JSON, Base64, CSV and timestamps: formats and tools for developers who work with e-invoices and business data.

2 articles

Behind every e-invoice are data formats that developers work with every day. XRechnung and ZUGFeRD are XML with namespaces, schemas and XPath expressions. APIs return JSON, attachments travel as Base64 inside the XML, master data arrives as CSV from the accounting system, and timestamps have to be converted between Unix time, ISO 8601 and local time zones. Anyone who imports, exports or checks invoice data needs a solid understanding of these formats and fast tools to inspect them.

Typical pitfalls include wrongly declared character encodings, umlauts in file names, missing or swapped namespaces, decimal separators in CSV exports, daylight saving time in timestamps and Base64 content that loses its line breaks when copied. Many of these errors can be found in seconds once you see the data as a structure instead of a block of text.

In this category we explain the formats with examples from invoice processing, with code snippets and typical failure patterns. Every tool runs locally in your browser, so sensitive invoice data never leaves your computer: XML viewer, JSON formatter, Base64 encoder, CSV to JSON converter, QR code generator, UUID generator, timestamp converter, image compressor and word counter.
